AQUEOUS ATLANTIS

Nearly three months in the making, “AQUEOUS ATLANTIS” by Andrew Annenberg is a masterful work that portrays the ancient civilization of Atlantis, covered by the silent depths of the ocean. The aqueous ruins are now a gathering place for the dolphins. They circle images of themselves portrayed lovingly by the Atlanteans in a mosaic floor and swim toward the light energy emitted from a gold-capped pyramid.

As we look closer, drawn in toward the light, we are there, aware of a powerful presence.

Andrew Annenberg’s work has been described as visionary realism. His meticulous rendering of details enables one to travel on a journey into the painting’s world. “AQUEOUS ATLANTIS” is a shining example of the transformative power of Annenberg’s art.

Months of travel, exploring sites of ancient civilizations, especially those of Italy and Greece, as well as extensive research in mythology and archeology, enable Mr. Annenberg to create ‘visions’ of great integrity. Nothing seems out of place or unusual, although nothing is ‘real’.

The painting was inspired by many experiences, the trance readings of Edgar Cayce, visiting ruins of a dolphin mosaic floor from an ancient private home called “House of the Dolphins” on the island of Delos, Greece…visits to the numerous sites of pillars still standing long after the buildings they supported have crumbled…sharing the ocean depths swimming with dolphins surrounded by coral reefs…and mysterious stories from divers, such as Dr. Ray Brown.

Such is the stuff of inspiration. Annenberg had intended for the pillars of Atlantis to reside amidst underseas mountains. With the watery void on canvas – pillars and mosaic and dolphins in place – a pyramid came into his vision. A long-forgotten memory of a fantastic story took shape, Atlantis was discovered.
