The owner of Pannini records came to me and said he would like me to do the cover for a band that he was publishing which was the Peter Moon band.

The album cover name was cane fire. My research started with procuring some sugarcane and borrowing a guitar and putting the two together in my studio into a surrealistic interpretation of “cane fire”.

The album cover was nominated for cover design of the year. The Na Hoku Hanohano Awards, occasionally called the Na Hoku or Hoku Awards, are the premier music awards in Hawaii and are the Hawaiian equivalent of the Grammy Awards.

“Na Hoku Hanohano” means “Stars of Distinction” in Hawaiian – “hoku” means “star”, “na” makes it plural, and “hanohano” means “glorious, worthy of praises”.

The awards were founded in 1978 by radio personality Krash Kealoha of KCCN-AM, a radio station which focused on traditional Hawaiian music in the islands.
