Goddess of Santorini

AA220911-Santorini

As a result of my visit to Greece I created a painting, upon my return, called the Goddesses of Santorini.

The village I visited, Santorini, is situated on the left of the painting and the bottom is a young man who strives to be a part of the of the goddess and the goddess is huge. The goddess spans the ocean and even connects with the sun itself.

The island had an ancient site I visited called Akrotirii, a Minoan Bronze Age settlement on the volcanic Greek island of Santorini (Thera).

The settlement was destroyed in the Theran eruption about 1500 BC and buried in volcanic ash, which preserved the remains of fine Frescoes and many objects and artworks. The site has been excavated since 1967.

The settlement has been suggested as a possible inspiration for Plato’s story of Atlantis, which inspired me after I toured the site, and walked its ancient streets.
