Hawaiian Life

AA191208-Hawaiianspace-t

One of my best Still Life

The house where this was painted was one of the Charles A. Lindbergh paradise houses in Kipahulu Maui. This still life was arranged from fruits grown locally with the exception of a pineapple from the other side of the island and cherries from  Washington state. The cherries were included  to signify the influence of the U.S. tie to the Hawaiian Islands (George Washington)

The pieces of fruit in the composition were cut open and painted immediately in order to capture that freshness in the painting. The handmade palm frond hat was woven by an old Japanese man named Uni who sold his hats nearby at a landmark waterfall. A fragrant ginger flower is in the vase and the red sugarcane brings you into the composition.

Loved by many and also known to reside in travel souvenir collections.  This painting was made into cards so tourists visiting the Islands could take home a piece of Hawaii.
