This painting was done Plein Aire style which was rewarding to be out in nature and not in the city, since much of my life is spent in cities, this was very refreshing.

In 1969 I left Los Angeles to move north to Washington state. I ended up moving to Camano Island. I painted in various locations together to combine into one scene.
I wanted to paint nature from life so I created “Libra” which I painted for six months starting during the Autumn season. Many days were inclement weather and I had to bring some of the ferns, leaves and mushrooms into the studio and paint them. When the weather was sunny I would go out and paint in the woods.
In the top area one can see Whidbey Island and the Olympic Mountains. A boat crosses the water on the Puget Sound.
My love of nature truly came out in this painting.
